Here's a list of panels I'm hosting at the 2002

in Oakland, April 19-21

Friday, April 19

3:30 PM - 4:30 PM / Calvin Simmons Ballroom
INTERVIEW WITH JOHN ROMITA, SR.

We only scratched the surface with our chat at San Diego last year.  Come hear "Jazzy" JOHNNY ROMITA...the artist Jack Kirby called, "The man who saved Spider-Man."  We'll discuss his work for Marvel as both artist and Art Director.  A fascinating creative talent.

4:30 PM - 6:00 PM / Calvin Simmons Ballroom
TWENTY YEARS OF GROO

Has it really been twenty years that this ungainly creature has stalked the land and comic book shops?  Seems like more.  Anyway, here's your chance to hear SERGIO ARAGONÉS and me (MARK EVANIER) divulge secrets of their stupid barbarian and stupider partnership.

Saturday, April 20

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM / Calvin Simmons Ballroom
QUICK...DRAW!

It's the cartooning version of Whose Line Is It, Anyway?, only they draw silly pictures and it isn't all planned in advance.  Be there as SERGIO ARAGONÉS, BATTON LASH, JOHN ROMITA JR. and maybe a couple of other fast draw specialists duel to the death.

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM / Calvin Simmons Ballroom
THE WONDERCON GOLDEN/SILVER AGE PANEL
A conversation about comics from days past in the comic book industry with Super-Editor JULIUS SCHWARTZ, veteran artist CREIG FLESSEL, Dondi cartoonist IRWIN HASEN, Spider-Man illustrator JOHN ROMITA, SR. and maybe one more if he shows up.

5:00 PM - 6:00 PM / Calvin Simmons Ballroom
FUNNY BOOKS

A spotlight on real comic books — the kind people laugh at.  With foks who've done them...like SERGIO ARAGONÉS (Groo and Mad), CAROLYN KELLY (Pogo), BATTON LASH (Supernatural Law), PAUL DINI (Jingle Belle), PAT McGREAL (Disney Comics) and me.

Sunday, February 20

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM / Room 201
HOW NOT TO GET TAKEN

LEN WEIN and me (MARK EVANIER) provide valuable advice on how to avoid having producers and publishers pick your pocket, complete with many "been there, done that" examples.  This presentation is part of ProCon, which is running concurrently with WonderCon.

For info on the convention itself, click here.  Keep in mind that schedules and programs are subject to change.  For the latest updates on the panels on this page, keep your eye on my weblog.
