Here's a list of panels I'm hosting at the 2003

in San Diego, July 17-20

Thursday, July 17

1:00 PM - 2:30 PM / Room 9
SEDUCTION OF THE INNOCENT

It's been fifty years since Dr. Fredric Wertham penned the book that some say changed the comic industry.  Come see rare video footage of Dr. Wertham and a discussion of his book with AL FELDSTEIN, KURT BUSIEK, DWIGHT DECKER and GRANT GEISSMAN.

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM / Room 8
SPOTLIGHT ON SAL BUSCEMA

At one time or another, he drew almost every Marvel Comic, including memorable stints on Hulk, Rom, The Avengers, The Spectacular Spider-Man and Captain America!  In his first-ever West Coast convention appearance, we meet and greet Mr. SAL BUSCEMA.

4:00 PM - 5:30 PM / Room 8
SPOTLIGHT ON STAN GOLDBERG

For years, Stan Goldberg has been one of the major illustrators of Archie and his pals...but before that, he drew for Marvel (Millie the Model) and colored their classic super-hero comics.  Come meet the man who decided what color the Thing would be...STAN GOLDBERG.

Friday, July 18

11:30 AM - 1:00 PM / Room 8
THE ANNUAL JACK KIRBY TRIBUTE PANEL

Every year, we gather to talk about the man some call "The King of the Comics."  This year, that worthy topic is batted around by members of the Kirby family plus LARRY LIEBER, STAN GOLDBERG, SAL BUSCEMA, MIKE ROYER, WENDY PINI and MICHAEL CHABON.

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM / Room 6B
QUICK DRAW!

It's like Whose Line Is It Anyway? except they draw pictures as fast as humanly possible.  It was a smash hit last year and it'll only be bigger and better this time around — with contestants SERGIO ARAGONÉS, SCOTT SHAW!, KYLE BAKER and JIM LEE.

Saturday, July 19

10:30 AM - NOON / Room 8
GOLD KEY AND DELL COMICS
Once upon a time, they had the most successful line of comic books ever, ranging from Magnus, Robot Fighter to Uncle Scrooge.  We explore the history of Western Publishing Company and Dell with LEN WEIN, FRANK BOLLE, MIKE ROYER, MAGGIE THOMPSON and others.

NOON - 1:30 PM / Room 8
THE ANNUAL GOLDEN AGE PANEL

It's our tenth annual gathering of the greatest artistic talents of the greatest generation, this year focusing on the history of DC Comics with HARRY LAMPERT, MART NODELL, IRWIN HASEN, HOWIE POST, MURPHY ANDERSON and JULIUS SCHWARTZ.

1:30 PM - 3:00 PM / Room 8
THE SERGIO & MARK SHOW

The people who bring you Groo the Wanderer (all of them) and other silliness gather to talk about their work, why they do it and what can be done to stop them.  With SERGIO ARAGONÉS, M.E., STAN SAKAI, TOM LUTH and maybe an editor if any of ours has the guts to show up.

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM / Room 6A
BRADBURY, ACKERMAN AND SCHWARTZ

Three of the most important figures in science fiction gather for a historic summit meeting: Master fantasy writer RAY BRADBURY, historian (and editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland) FORREST J ACKERMAN, and s-f agent and comic book legend JULIUS SCHWARTZ.

4:00 PM - 5:30 PM / Room 6B
CARTOON VOICE ACTORS

A demonstration of the fine art of performing for animation.  The cast may include MARK HAMILL, BILLY WEST, GREGG BERGER, JESS HARNELL, LAURI FRASER, BOB BERGEN, KATHY GARVER, GREG BERG, MAURICE LaMARCHE, JOE ALASKEY and many more!

Sunday, July 19

12:30 PM - 2:00 PM / Room 8
SPOTLIGHT ON LARRY LIEBER

He was there at the beginning of the Marvel Universe, writing the first tales of Thor and Iron Man.  He's drawn Spider-Man longer than any other artist!  TONY ISABELLA and I will be co-interviewing him and we might even ask LARRY LIEBER about his brother, Stan Lee.
